An Important Question
Do you know for sure that if you died today you would spend eternity in heaven?
This is the most important question in the world, and every person can have certainty about their eternal future. The only path to heaven is as follows – through Jesus Christ.
A Universal problem
The Bible tells us that all of us have broken God’s laws and are sinners. For example, have you ever told a lie in your life?
If you are honest, you will admit that you have lied, likely many times. God tells us in His Word that lying is sin.
We have all committed the sin of lying, but we have all also broken many more of God’s laws in our lives. And the penalty for our sin, even one sin, is death, not only physical death but also spiritual death in hell. Our sin separates us from God because He is holy, so there is a huge gap between each of us and God because of our sin.
So each one of us has a big problem. Our sin breaks our relationship with God and separates us from Him resulting in eternal death.
The Good News
But there is great news! This news is greater than anything you will ever read or watch on social media, see on TV, or hear from any other source.
God loved you so much that He sent His only Son Jesus to this earth. Jesus was born of a virgin, and then lived a perfect, sin free life. Jesus is completely God and completely man. After living sin free in this world, Jesus gave His life as a sacrifice to pay the penalty for all of the sins of every person in the world. He suffered and died on a cross, paying for the sins of humanity and making a way for sinful man to have a relationship with holy God.
After Jesus’ death on the cross, He was buried, but three days later Jesus was raised from the dead. Jesus showed His power over death and His ability to give life with His resurrection. And now Jesus offers you and every other person in the world forgiveness of your sins and eternal life as a free gift. This is the great news.
None of us deserve forgiveness or eternal life and none of us can earn either of these by living a good life. Jesus offers them to us freely. Forgiveness and eternal life are also called salvation. Salvation is free, but it does not come automatically.
What Must I Do?
Every person is responsible to do two things in order to receive the gift of salvation: repent of their sins and believe in Jesus. Repentance requires acknowledging your sin before God, and turning away from you sinful nature to surrender to Jesus. True saving faith requires trusting Jesus completely and yielding your life entirely to Him. The key word for genuine repentance and faith is surrender.
In order to become a Christian, you must willfully surrender control of your to Jesus Christ. And the second you sincerely repent and believe, Jesus will forgive you of your sins, give you eternal life, and fix the broken relationship you had with God. You are now born again, saved, and a new person in Christ. Jesus changes your life.
Think about something for a second. Has Jesus ever changed your life like that?
If He hasn’t, He is ready to change your life if you are willing to repent of your sins and believe in Him. Will you give your life to Jesus right now?
An Important Prayer
If you are ready to surrender to Jesus, tell Him in your own words that you are repenting of your sin and trusting in Him completely, surrendering your whole life to Him. If you are not sure how to do this, you can sincerely pray a prayer something like this.
I know that I am a sinner. I am turning away from my sin now Jesus, and surrendering control of my life to you. I know that you came to earth and died on the cross to pay the penalty for my sins. Jesus, I know that you were raised from the dead and that you have the power to forgive my sins. Forgive me of my sins, give me eternal life, and help me to live my whole life for you. Thank you for saving me.
In Jesus name, Amen
How Should I Respond?
Please realize that the aforementioned words alone cannot save you. You must surrender your life to Jesus. If you sincerely repented of your sin and trusted Jesus, surrendering your life to Him, He has forgiven you and given you eternal life. Praise the Lord!
