Assurance of Salvation

Do you know for sure you will go to heaven? God wants you to know. Read through the following and examine yourself:

The Bible is the perfect Word of God. God has given you the Bible to show you many things. Before you continue reading these words, pray to God and ask Him to open your eyes to His truth in the Bible.

The most important topic of the Bible is the only way to go to heaven, through Jesus.

Read John 3:3 and John 14:6

All people must be born again to go to heaven, and the only way to be born again is through Jesus.

The Bible teaches that all people are responsible to decide for themselves how they will respond to Jesus. It also says that every person will stand before Jesus at the final judgment.

Read 2 Corinthians 5:10 and Revelation 20:11-15.

The names of people who are born again are written in the book of life. All other people will spend eternity in hell.

The Bible says we should look at ourselves closely to make sure we are born again.

Read 2 Corinthians 13:5

These Bible passages are just a few of many that show us the importance of knowing Jesus personally. The great news is that we can know for sure that we are going to heaven when we die.

Read 1 John 5:11-13 and Romans 10:13

Consider the major parts of the gospel message and read what the Bible says about each one.

Every person who has ever lived on earth is a sinner. Sin is any word, action, or thought that is contrary to God’s perfect law. We are all sinners by nature and by choice. Since the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, every person has been born with a sinful nature. Every person who has ever lived has also chosen to sin many thousands of times in his life.

Read Romans 3:23, Romans 5:12, Romans 5:18-19–even better Read Romans chapters 3-6.

The penalty for sin is death. This is not simply physical death in the body, but spiritual death in hell. Few people really understand how serious sin really is. It causes permanent physical and spiritual death. We deserve death and hell. It is impossible to earn your way into heaven because even one sin will put you in hell.

Read Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:1-9

Since God is holy and perfect, He cannot have a relationship with sinful man. God’s standard is perfection.

Read Matthew 5:48

But the great news is that God loved us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to earth. Jesus is completely (100%) God and completely man. He lived a perfect sinless life here on earth, then paid the penalty for our sins by dying on the cross. Jesus was then buried but was raised from the dead 3 days later. Jesus’ power over death makes it possible for us to have eternal life.

Read John 3:16, 1 John 5:20, 1 Timothy 2:5-6, 1 Peter 2:21-25, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 – even better read the entire book of 1 John, 1 Peter chapters 1-2, and the entire gospel of John

Jesus offers us eternal life and forgiveness of sin free as a gift. We are saved by grace. Works will not get a person anywhere with God.

Read Romans 6:23 and Ephesians 2:8-9 again.

Salvation is free but it is not automatic. A person must do 2 things to be saved – repent and believe in Jesus. Repentance is turning away from our sinful nature and turning to God through Jesus. Real faith is trusting completely in Jesus alone for salvation. In order for a person to sincerely repent and believe in Jesus, he must surrender control of his life to Jesus. If a person genuinely repents and believes in Jesus, he will be saved.

Read Mark 1:15, Acts 3:19, Acts 16:31, Romans 10:9-13, John 3:16-18

Many people think they have repented and trusted in Jesus but they really haven’t.

Read Matthew 7:21-23

Every person can be sure that they are saved and should make sure their “salvation” lines up with what the Bible says about salvation. The Bible says we can know for sure we are saved.

Read 1 John 5:11-13 and Romans 10:13 again.

The Bible also gives 4 other tests to make sure our repentance and faith in Jesus are genuine. First of all, all true Christians are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. It is virtually impossible to have the Living God within you and not know it. If you have sincerely trusted Jesus, He gives you the Holy Spirit as a deposit guaranteeing your inheritance in heaven.

Read Ephesians 1:13-14, Romans 8:9, Romans 8:16, 1 John 3:24, 1 John 4:13

The second test is a changed life. If Jesus really has saved you, He will completely change your life – the way you think, act, and view the world. The Bible says that when a person is saved, he passes from death to life. It is virtually impossible to pass from death to life without knowing it.

Read 2 Corinthians 5:17, John 5:24

The other tests are the love test and the obedience test. Christians will have a love in their hearts that comes only from God. And they will obey God’s Word.

Read 1 John 4:7-8, 1 John 2:3-6

The promises of God’s Word and the tests He gives us in the Bible will show us evidence of true conversion.

You must decide for yourself what you will do with Jesus. You must make Jesus’ words in the Bible personal in your life. The message of the Bible is simple – either you come to God on His terms or you spend eternity in hell.

How will you respond to Jesus right now?

If you are sure you are ready to respond to Jesus, tell Him in prayer that you are ready to turn away from you sins and call out to Him to save you, placing your faith in Him alone for salvation. Surrender your life completely to Jesus and He will save you. Use your own words to express this to Jesus or sincerely pray a prayer something like this:

Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I know that you died for my sins and were raised from the dead. I am turning away from my sin now Lord and turning to you. Please forgive me of my sins and save me. Take control of my life right now and be Lord and Savior of my life. I am trusting in you alone for salvation. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus name, Amen.
